Ocean Tunnel Card

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful week so far! It’s TaeEun here today to share a tunnel card with a oceanic scene with you!

It’s the first time I’ve made a tunnel card. I was brainstorming for a card featuring our Beautiful Bettas set and my thought has reached an idea of a card which represents a fish tank in a 3D look.  And then I thought it would be great to combine it with our Mermaid Vibes set. So this oceanic card was born 🙂 !

In a tunnel card you can assemble your elements on different layers. The layers are hold on both sides with an accordion fold paper strip.

First I’ve created the background panel. I started by gold heat embossing the swimming mermaid and a school of fish. I then stamped the seaweeds from Mermaid Vibes set and Beautiful Bettas set in Soft Garden, Bright Fern and Hot Turmaline and clear heat embossed them. I colored the mermaid and fishes with Zig brush markers and the background using Gansai Tambi watercolor.

I then stamped the betta fishes and some seaweeds from Beautiful Bettas set on a separate white cardstock and cut them using coordinating dies. I used Cali Blue, Azurite and Deep Sapphire for the blue fish and Soft Amethyst, Iris Blooms and Violet Fringe for the purple fish. I stamped a pink fish but at the end I decided not to use it.

I cut two strips of print paper and folded them in an accordion shape and glued them on both sides of the background panel. Every second crease is the place where the layer would be added (see picture below). I prepared two clear acetate sheets for the first and second layer. The front frame was made by partial die cutting a panel using a Double Stitched Rectangle die and by cutting a wavy line to make that window.

Now it’s time to assemble the tunnel card. On the first layer of acetate sheet I added the purple fish and some seaweeds. I used double sided tape or foam adhesive to mount them on the acetate. To adhere the layer to the accordion folded side wall I used a thin strip of paper, a half of which was glued to the acetate and the other to the side wall.

The second acetate layer with the blue fish was mounted in the same way like the first one. The sentiment is from Mermaid Vibes set. I white heat embossed it on a strip of purple cardstock and glued it onto the front frame. The mermaid was gold heat embossed, colored using Zig brush markers and fussy cut before added to the card.

Of course the embellishments like Glass Slippers Round Confetti and glittery Stickles were applied before assembling. I kept the size in 5.25″ x 4″ so that the card can fit in a A2 sized envelope.

I hope I described the process good enough for you to understand :). It was so much fun to make this card.  Hope you give this a try!

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

There has been so much work gone into this card TaeEun and it is a gorgeous shape and with the beautifully bright fish and pretty mermaids you have used in the background and on the front of the frame. A magical scene! x
