Video: Cardinal Sweater Card

Hello and welcome back, everyone! I’m back with another holiday card using our Cardinal Friends and Christmas Sweater background stamp.

I started off by clear heat embossing our Christmas Sweater background stamp onto an A2 brown cardstock panel. Then I stamped this sweet cardinal and foliage cluster onto white cardstock using our Caviar Hybrid (copic friendly) ink. Once I stamped my images, I colored everything in using copic markers.

  • Cardinal Body and beak: R14, R29 R56, Y38 (beak) and E39 (feet)
  • Foliage: YG09, R14 and E23

Once my coloring was complete, I die cut the images with their coordinating dies. I stamped and colored one cardinal and four foliage clusters (but I only used three). Whenever I use foliage or leaves in my projects, I make sure to stamp and color extras because I usually end up using more.

Next, I used the third largest circle die in our Double Stitched Circles Large die collection to create a round die cut which my cardinal would rest upon. At the same time, I die cut my sweater panel using the largest die in our Double Stitched Rectangles Small die collection. This die added stitching to the edges of my panel while cutting it into a size a bit smaller than an A2 panel.

Once all the die cutting was complete, I started assembling my card. I adhered the sweater panel onto a side folding A2 base. Then I popped up the round die cut using foam tape. Then I adhered one of the foliage clusters right onto the round die cut. Next, I popped up the cardinal onto the round piece. Then I used two of the foliage clusters for the top right and bottom left corner of my card. After trimming off the excess foliage pieces, I used the extra pieces to tuck and nestle around the base of my cardinal. This made the base of my cardinal nice and full adding a lot of interest to the midsection of my card.

Finally, I added some of our Medallion Gold sequins for some shiny interest.  I don’t normally make brown cards but I decided to give it a go today with my cardinal since red and brown coordinate rather nicely together. I was so happy with my results and I’m glad I tried something new today.

If you like cardinals, be sure to check out our Winter Cardinal Set! It features a solid image of a whimsical and folksy cardinal with some foliage elements to create fun winter scenes.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you all enjoyed the video!

Great cardinal. Best I’ve seen in all the cardinal cards I’ve seen. Makes me want to pull my cardinal out and use it tonight.
