It’s feathers galore today! I have been contemplating adding real feathers as embellishments to my projects for a while now because of the amazing dimension that you get from them. I finally decided that it was time. They’re such a fun and whimsical accessory to embellish your projects with.  There’s nothing like a gorgeous feather that screams handmade chic!

For my first two cards, I featured our new and fabulous Haute Gala Dress.

I started off by stamping our Haute Gala Dress gal onto white cardstock with our crisp black Noir Dye Ink. Then I colored her in using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Tip markers (Flesh, Blush, Light Gray, Pale Gray, Dark Brown). Next I heat embossed the glitter detailing on her dress which is a separate stamp in this set. I used silver glitter embossing powder for this element to give the card a bit of bling. Once I was done coloring and embossing this image, I use the coordinating die to cut her out.

Next I stamped our lovely Peony Notes on two separate pieces of cardstock. For my peony florals, I used Rose Quartz, a secret ink color for my midtone hue (this gorgeous pink will debut next month for our new ink release) and Pink Derby Dye inks. For my foliage, I used Crystal Pewter and Smoky Quartz Dye Inks. Next I stamped the sentiment from the same Haute Gala Dress set onto the floral panel with our Noir Dye Ink. Once I finished stamping, I die cut the other floral cluster using the coordinating die.

Finally I began to assemble my card starting with my Peony Notes non die cut panel and feathers. I used a combination of our Mint and White Simple feathers for this card. I adhered my feathers down using tape and/or liquid adhesive. I made sure the feathers were wispy and delicate.  Next I popped up my Haute Gala Gal onto the panel.  Then I popped up my die cut Peony Notes cluster at the bottom edge of my project. For the last touch, I added a 1cm Clear Glass Heart Gem (smaller heart gem) above my sentiment which I adhered using Glue Dots.

For my next card I colored in my Haute Gala Gal using the same zig markers from my previous project. The only difference for this card was that I only partially stamped this gal because I really only needed the top half of the image.

Once I colored her in, I used the coordinating die to cut her out. Then I trimmed the portion of the dress so that it tapered down a bit. Next I stamped our Riotous Wildflowers on cardstock in our Noir Dye Ink. Then I stamped the sentiment on a separate piece of white cardstock. Next I double mounted my sentiment strip on an additional strip of black cardstock and then finally a strip of gorgeous silver glitter adhesive paper. I adhered my sentiment onto my Riotous Wildflower panel by peeling the protective backing off the sliver glitter paper.

Next I adhered three of our White Simple feathers together with tape. Then I adhered my feather bundle behind my gal. Next I started building her dress using White Simple, Tawny Simple, Orange Fine and Natural Fawn Feathers. I used liquid adhesive to adhere everything in place. One my dress was complete, I added a mix of our new Square Glass Gems to embellish my card.

For my last project, I used our Loose Tulips and Buildable Woodgrain stamps.

Be sure to follow us on YouTube for more inspiration! I update our channel on a weekly basis!

I started off by heat embossing my tulip images using our Rose Gold Embossing Powder. Then I watercolored everything using Color Bursts (Peony, Lemon Yellow, Sap Green and Terre Vert). Next I die cut everything using the coordinating dies.

Then I stamped my buildable woodgrain using our Found Topaz, Aspen Cocoa and Dark Roast Dye Inks. I finally used the plank stamp (3 straight line stamp) in this set for a project and I totally love the look behind my bouquet of tulips!

Next I added stitching to the edges of my woodgrain panel and added a die cut window at the same time using the largest and third largest dies from our Double Stitched Rectangle Dies. Finally, I assembled my card using our new Fine Green and Blue long feathers. For my tulips, leaves and stems, I popped up everything that was above my wood panel. If one of the elements was above the feathers, I just applied liquid adhesive to adhere them down. Lastly, I stamped my sentiment (from our Sweet Folk Hummingbird set) onto black cardstock using our Hampton White Pigment Ink.

One tip for using feathers on your projects is to plan your arrangement or placement in advance. Then adhere everything down once you know where everything is going to be placed. This will make your crafting life much easier.

I hope you all liked my cards! Be sure to join us back here tomorrow (and everyday until January 26) to continue celebrating our Third Anniversary!

Wow! Those feathers are stunning with the tulips and the dress!! My absolute favorite is the Gala gal going through the peony garden with the feathers… breathtakingly beautiful! I must CASE that some day!!

My impression of the first card was that it felt dreamy, but I didn’t realize it was because of the feathers making everything slightly opaque! Sometimes I’m not the brightest bulb. But I love seeing these different ways to use feathers. Those are definitely not something I use, but I love seeing ways to use them!

Well, now I definitely will not be letting the feathers go when I have to purge the craft space! The stamps are lovely, the feathers a totally unexpected and wonderful surprise!!! Thank you for a touch of delight.
