Hello and welcome back to our blog! I wanted to pop in today to share this card and video that I made for World Cardmaking Day. I am also announcing a new giveaway to celebrate today and also announcing the winner of our October Release Giveaway. Be sure to scroll down for all giveaway information.
This card was a huge experiment for me. I have never done no line watercoloring with such a bold background. I’ve seen so many watercolor artists on Instagram painting this way so I decided to try it out. The artists on Instagram usually draw their images in pencil and then watercolor over their drawing. However, for my project, I stamped our Magnificent Magnolia cluster a light ink (Vanilla Frosted Cupcake or Ballet Slippers will work) and applied watercolor around it and obtained a similar result! I am using Ken Oliver Color Bursts to paint today.
Don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube Channel because I update it regularly with more videos every week!
After I stamped my floral image, I wet the paper surrounding my image with clean water. I wanted to create a blended background first. After I dropped in bits of green (I mixed a bit of lime green, naples yellow and burnt umber) I added a little bit of turquoise for brightness. Then I blended it all together.
Next I added a bit of shading to my magnolias using diluted black watercolor paint. It’s better to build up your layers of color when you watercolor so you get a richer and better quality result. This does take patience but the result is worth it. For my branches, I used Sepia Color Bursts. Next I added a deeper green to my background for a bold contrast for my magnolias. I used Terre Vert Color bursts.
After I finished painting, I dried the panel completely and added opaque white splatters using Liquitex Acrylic Paint. Then I dried the panel again and stamped my sentiment in our Noir Dye Ink. Next, I trimmed my panel to A2 size and adhered it onto a side folding cardbase. Lastly, I embellished my card using our Clear Rhinestones.
Hope you all liked my card for today!

Well, that’s really an impossible question! – it depends on the season, the purpose. I love your Christmas stamps and have made many designs from them. I love the banner set for adding a classy, clean sentiment. But if I have to pick just one set, I’m going with the Poppy Garden Cling Background; it’s so versatile.
