Hitting the Books

Welcome back to The Ton Stamps blog, The Season. Janette here with you today to share Hitting the Books in tribute to all those headed back to school this week and the coming weeks. These cards are perfect for wishing our teacher friends fabulous first days back!

By changing simple elements of a card you can tweak any card to meet your specific needs. These two have the same base of books, exactly. I stamped Haute Books on 80# Neenah Solar White in Caviar Hybrid Couture Ink and then ran the stamped image through my laser copier. You can’t tell which is which, can you? Funny thing, neither can I!

Okay, so truth be told, I can’t tell from the pictures, but when I tilt the actual cards in the light the copied set of books shines a touch where the inked set does not. Laser toner, or at least the kind in my HP printer, is Copic compatible. I shaded the books and flowers just a touch with C00, C2 and C4. The flowers are popped up with dimensional adhesive over a Distress Oxide blended background in Peacock Feathers, Fossilized Amber, Picked Raspberry and Spiced Marmalade on Bristol Smooth paper with Ranger mini ink round blenders and foam pads. Water splatters for interest and a few Summer Soiree sequins to set off the sentiment complete this card.

In addition to Haute Books, this card features City Girls: Book Life and Basic Banners. I also used the same set of Distress Oxides and Bristol Smooth paper, but with Clarity Brushes instead of foam blenders. Clarity brushes offer a delicate light finish. In addition to the Copic colors used above I added E30 and E53 for skin tone. The Basic Banner was stamped, blended and then fussy cut right to the edge of the design. I then used it’s coordinating die to create a black base and give it a bold border against the busy book background. City Girl and banner are both popped with dimensional adhesive and I’ve added a few Glass Slipper sequins.

Thank you for visiting and don’t forget to submit a card for the current Ton “Summer” themed challenge for your chance to win $50 gift code to the shop!

I absolutely love the books stamp! Reading is one of my greatest passions in life! I started reading at 3 years old and can speed read better than reading slowly! Needless to say, that means that I have read MANY, MANY books in my lifetime! I am also able to remember exactly what I read so tests were a breeze in school! LOL TFS!

Wow, Barb! You sound much like one of my older daughters (or maybe she like you). She is on book 70 for this year and she is a full time college student. She loves to read and aspires to be published, someday. She too has almost a photographic memory of what she has read and can remember the details from books she read long ago – something I am surely not blessed with! I knew I had to have all The Ton book stamps as soon as they became available!

Thank you for inspiration that came just in time. I want to make a card for one of my summer staff who is going back to college at the end of the week. She is majoring in fashion design and this will be perfect for her. And we work in a library. A few tweaks to personalize for her and good to go. I have all of these stamps because I love fashion and books. The Ton is so haute.
