Unusual inspiration

Good morning! Happy Monday! (Is there such a thing?) Emily here with you today to add some pretty pink flowers to your Monday morning.  Soooo…. I love to go to TJ Maxx. Our new house is (unfortunately) about 45+ minutes from the nearest decent sized city, so when I go there, it’s usually part of my kid-free “mommy time.” TJ Maxx is one of the places that I go during my “me” time, because I love to paw through the purses and home decor hunting for that awesome bargain. The home decor usually has some beautiful wrapping paper, and it was from one of these rolls of wrapping paper that I drew my inspiration for my projects today.

The aforementioned wrapping paper was beautiful… I wish I had snapped a photo of it. It had gold foil outlines of pretty flowers, with the occasional full color flower. Just the prettiest pops of color surrounded by all of that shiny gold. I thought that some of The Ton’s beautiful floral bouquet stamps would be perfect to create my own version…. kind of my own version of a “spotlight” technique. For this card, I started by heat embossing the pretty bouquet from Thoughtful Poppies using gold embossing powder onto Arches cold press watercolor paper, then die cutting it using the coordinating dies so that I could pop it up on my card front to make it truly stand out. Next, I watercolored it with my Daniel Smith watercolors. After I had watercolored my bouquet in a pretty shade of cotton candy pink, I turned my attention to the background.

I used the same bouquet stamp from Thoughtful Poppies stamped and heat embossed in gold all over my A2 card front. I used some dimensional adhesive to pop up the watercolored bouquet, then added a strip of black card stock onto which I’d heat embossed a sentiment from Dearest Peony. The final touch was to add some sequins from the Cotton Candy Couture Mix.

I enjoyed creating the previous card so much that I decided I wanted to make another one using the same technique and one of my all time favorite stamp sets: Happiest of Peonies. I replicated the steps to create the first card using Happiest of Peonies and the coordinating die.

For the greeting, I added a gold foil die cut “thank you” using the gold mirror foil from the shop, then added a “for being there” from the Brushed Thanks set. A smattering of Cotton Candy Couture Mix sequins finished it off.

    WOW! WOW! Such beautiful coloring and I love how the colored image is layered over the embossed images. I will pull out my Peony set and give this a try.

      Hi Janet, I’m not sure why the stamp you’re seeing doesn’t match the one linked in the blog post. The only thing I can think of is that maybe you clicked on the Dearest Peony link for the poppy card (Dearest Peony was linked because I used it for the sentiment), and the peony stamp used in the second card is from Happiest of Peonies. I double checked the links, and they are correct. I hope that helps!
