Tea For Mom

Hi everyone, Lisa here.   This is my very first blog post as designer for The Ton and I’m so excited to be here!   Since Mother’s Day is right around the corner, I thought I’d share a Mother’s Day card with you.  I make quite a few Mother’s Day cards to send to my sisters, my mom, of course and also to a very special woman who is actually my best friend’s mother.  She has been like a second mother to me for many years so she’s at the top of my Mother’s Day list every year.   I made this especially for her and because she’s a tea lover,  I made a cup of tea using the Tea Party stamp set and Tea Party Coordinating Dies.

I started out by first die cutting all the pieces to my tea cup.  I find that it is easier for me when I die cut small images first and then stamp them.  I stamped the cup with The Ton’s Lofty Mint for the background and Bright Emerald flowers.  The saucer is also in Lofty Mint and the cup and saucer are both outlined with Caviar ink.  I stamped the heart steam with Crystal Pewter.   For the base and handle of the cup I stamped with clear Versamark ink and embossed with Metallic Platinum Sparkle powder by WOW.  Ooops, don’t forget the tea!  I used a Copic marker to color the tea.  Isn’t that little tea tag cute?  I just made a little slit along the rim of the cup and added a thin string.  Then I hand cut a little white piece of card stock for the tag.  I searched through my stamps to find the tiny little word “LOVE” from a sentiment in the Dearest Peony stamp set and it fit perfectly.

After adding some light ink splatters, to the card base, I  used the Haute Stripes Cling Background stamp to create a checkered table cloth.  After stamping the stripes horizontally onto a 4.25 x 5.5″ piece of white cardstock in Bright Emerald ink, I cut it in strips.   Then I adhered the strips to the card front staggering the colors so that it formed a checkerboard pattern.

The Peony Cluster Mini, stamped and die cut were added to the top of the card using dimensional tape.  The were colored using a variety of pink Copic markers.

For the sentiment I combined words from the Fresh Cut Tulips and Flutter Mini stamp sets and stamped them in Caviar ink.

For a finishing touch, I added some clear sequins from the Glass Slippers Sequins Mix.
